"The people behind Yuyu are husband and wife team Mark McKeown and Julie-Anne Hughes, both designers but with different design disciplines. Julie started her textile design journey at art school in Scotland. Over fifteen years on, having worked in top design studios in New York and London; Julie now lives in Leeds and divides her time between designing for Yuyu, part-time lecturing to the textile students at Leeds College of Art, and most recently new mum to son Bertie.

Mark has nearly twenty years of experience in graphic and editorial design working for many well known national and international clients. They met back in 2004, since then Julie’s passion for surface pattern and screen-printing started to influence Mark’s everyday graphic design work. In 2007, they decided to combine their different skills and love of bold graphic prints (often influenced by the retro patterns they grew up with in the late seventies), to create Yuyu. They launched their first collection at Top Drawer in September 2008".

We had the pleasure of meeting Mark last week at the Tigerprint Open Day and it's safe to say that the Tigerprint team were bowled over by his design talent.

Tigerprint take part in Macmillan World's Biggest Coffee Morning

A few snippets from our studio this morning as we took part in Macmillan World's Biggest Coffee Morning.

A lot of tea, coffee and cake was consumed by all and all in support of the fantastic work Macmillan does.

Today Tigerprint are very proud to be taking part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning in support of Macmillan.

Our coffee morning will begin at 10.30 am and we will bring you some pics of the yummy cakes later in the day.

Emma Wood was another lovely designer we had the pleasure of meeting at our Open Day last week.

Earlier this year Emma graduated from the University of Cumbria, Carlisle BA Hons Contemporary Applied Arts (specialising in Embroidered & Printed Textiles).

We were really impressed with the techniques Emma uses in her work and it was really lovely to see this in Emma's work and discuss it in depth with Emma on the day.

Jane Bridges is another one of the amazingly talented designers we were lucky enough to meet at our Open Day last week.

Jane runs her own design label Patternhouse and also creates freelance collections for both fashion and home.

The past few years have seen some notable recognitions for Jane's work as winner of the Surtex Designext Competition in New York and finalist of the Wallpaper of the Year competition 2012.

It's safe to say that the team at Tigerprint were drooling over Jane's florals and the colour palettes were just pure eye candy!

Jenna Lee Alldread was another of the very talented designers that came to our Open Day last week.

Jenna recently graduated from MA Illustration at Nottingham Trent University and is now based in Leeds as a graphic artist.

Jenna has a wonderfully quirky and edgy style that can be applied to a number of products.

Today we start to bring you a very special showcase of the work of the designers who attended the Tigerprint Open Day in our West Yorkshire headquarters last week.

First up is the very talented Jessica Wilde who by day is a Wallpaper Designer. However the rest of Jessica's time is spent busily dipping into all sorts of crafts, textiles, print, pattern, photography and illustration.

Tigerprint Open Day!

Yesterday we held our very first Tigerprint open day and it was a great success!

We invited ten lovely designers to come and join us but it was very tough choosing from the brilliant applications we had.

So what did the day entail?

The designers each brought along their portfolios, an ice breaker task and passion for design!

During the day they got to look around the studio as well as working with us on lots of fun workshops before showing off their wares to the design team.

Over the next week we will showcase the talented bunch of designers who we met and worked with. For now though is a sneak peak of the day and a big thank you to all the designers who came to our HQ yesterday.

 

Black & White Print

Today is new competition day! This month we would like you to develop the Black and white trend and design us a print. Interested? Find out more here.

Tuesday will be judging day for the Tell A Tale Competition so keep an eye out for the results and a big thank you to all who took part.

Rachael Taylor - Designer Charity Doodle Wall

This September, Rachael Taylor is showing at Top Drawer but as well as showing Rachael's amazing range of designs there will be an interactive doodle wall for the public to watch live as it develops.

This big doodle extravaganza will then, with the help of Rachael and Wallpapered.com, be produced into wallpaper with all the proceeds going to the very deserving Cancer Research UK.

Rachael has invited an esteemed group of designers and artists to draw with her on the charity project throughout the show. You will be able to see updates of the wall as it progresses from Rachael's design blog here.
