Made North Designer Showcase

The Made North Designers showcase has come to Wakefield! Since it's launch back in February at the Made North conference it has been traveling around the UK & will end in London later this year. The Exhibition is promoting the brilliant furniture / product / graphic designer's that can be found in the north.

It celebrates designers who are using innovation, technology & new processes to create new ideas & products. If you've got a spare afternoon in Wakefield I'd recommend popping in.

The exhibition runs from April 16th - June 8th, at Beam.

 

Life Online

A group of Tigerprinters will be attending the late night opening of Life Online tonight at the Media Museum in Bradford.

We've been waiting a long time to see this exhibition which officially opens Friday 30th March.

"In March 2012, we will open the world's first gallery dedicated to exploring the social, technological and cultural impact of the internet. This permanent gallery will trace the history of the internet, uncover how it has changed people's lives and track the latest trends.

The gallery will bring together historically significant content, multimedia displays, and a programme of special exhibitions exploring contemporary trends and issues related to how the internet and the web are changing society.

Life Online will be powered by the ideas, thoughts and opinions of our physical and virtual visitors, ultimately creating an invaluable public archive of society's relationship with the internet and the web in the 21st century".

In addition the Media Museum will be hosting the TEDx Bradford event Friday 30th March 1-6pm and we will be sure to bring you a few snippets from the events in the next few days.

London based Chilean artist Fernando Casasempere’s large scale courtyard installation at Somerset House recreates the joy we feel at the site of blossoming daffodils signalling the end of winter and the beginning of spring. 10,000 ceramic daffodils, placed in a naturalistic setting within The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court, remind us of the wonder and accuracy of nature’s clock, against the backdrop of an ever changing environment.

The exhibition is free to all and will be open until 27th April during the hours 10am - 6pm.

London Easter Egg Hunt

The Faberge Egg Hunt is live across London. Use the maps on-line to hunt down 200 Easter Eggs in the Capital. Each egg has been created by a different designer and you can update others when you've spotted them, visit the site for more information. The interactive exhibition runs until Easter Weekend.

Conversations in Creativity with Wayne & Gerardine Hemingway

If your anywhere near Preston next week then I'd highly recommend you check out the latest D&AD event "Conversations in Creativity with Wayne & Gerardine Hemingway".

"For over 30 years Hemingway Design has conceived creative concepts and social design projects for an impressive roster of major brands and agencies.

From affordable and social design such as Staiths South Bank on Tyneside, to Land of Lost Content, and work with the likes of Coca Cola, John Lewis, Sony, the 2012 Olympics and a long term sustainability project with McDonalds, Hemingway Design are recognised worldwide with a core philosophy of aiming to "improve things that matter in life".

The Lecture is presented by D&AD North in association with Creative Lancashire's 'Conversations in Creativity' Network.

The Faberge Big Egg Hunt

The Big Egg Hunt presented by Faberge sees 209 giant egg sculptures placed high and low across central London for over 6 weeks. These stunning pieces of unique and extraordinary art will capture the imagination of London; each one finely designed, crafted and decorated by leading artists from around the world. 

Each two and a half foot fiberglass sculpture will take its place in the hunt throughout the 12 egg zones across London, and come together for The Grand Eggstavaganza on the Easter weekend. View the entire collection in all its speggtacular glory from Thursday 5 ^th to Monday 9 ^th April.

A Golden Collection of 30 eggs will be sold at live auction on 20 ^th March with the rest of the eggs sold online. All proceeds from the auction go to charities Elephant Family and Action for Children.

Scottish designer Donna Wilson brings her playful textiles to Yorkshire Sculpture Park this winter, drawing inspiration from the landscape to create an eccentric world of knitted trees and curiosities featuring her trademark patterns and colours alongside exclusive limited edition prints. Named ‘Designer of the Year 2010’ by Elle Decoration, Donna is known for her knitted creatures, textiles, home-wares and furniture.

The exhibition will run until 26th February 2012 so plenty of time to plan your visit.

Tigerprint are delighted to be sponsoring an event at Huddersfield University which will see Donna give a professional practice talk today. Unfortunately tickets for the event are now sold out but we will hopefully bring you a few pics from the event tomorrow.

 

Leeds Digital Festival

Leeds Digital Festival is a celebration of digital technology and platforms. The digital industry spans business, art, culture, education and lifestyle; and the festival features a range of events, shows, lectures, and social events to bring the entire community together.

Officially taking place in November, the current programme spans six weeks, showing the breadth and depth of what 'digital' means to Leeds.

The aim of the Leeds Digital Festival – which, now in its fourth year, attracts thousands of participants – is to promote the work and talent the city has to offer, from urban artists, digital practitioners, students, freelancers and other collaborators.

There are lots of events on and the Leeds Digital Festival website and all social media platforms are regular updated so well worth checking out. Whether your a student or design professional or have an interest in the digital arts then I'd definitely recommend heading to a few of the events.

A few of us Tigerprinters will be heading to the Girl Geeks event tonight and we are very much looking forward to hearing the speakers and networking.

The Comedy Carpet

The Comedy Carpet is a large scale installation on Blackpool beach. The carpet is a tribute to all the comedy greats from the early days of Variety Shows, 80% of which have performed in the town. Look out for phrases, jokes and songs from the likes of Tommy Cooper, Frankie Howerd & Monty Python to name a few.
