The London International Animation Festival

The London International Animation Festival proudly showcases the whole spectrum of creative animation, showing that animation is for everyone...

Founded in 2003, LIAF aims to dispel the popular misconception that animation is just cartoons for kids by screening the broadest possible range of intelligent, entertaining and provocative current films on offer from all around the world as well as retrospectives and specialised sessions from countries and animators who don't normally elicit such attention.

The annual 10-day Festival in August and September includes gala premieres, retrospectives, Q&A's with filmmakers, workshops, audience voting, and the Best of the Festival screening. Since this year LIAF has become much more than an annual Festival – they are programming more events, tours, screenings and masterclasses all year-round to as many cities and countries that invite them.

Watch Me Move: The Animation Show

Exciting news that the Barbican has an upcoming exhibition which traces the history of animation over the past 150 years. The Animation Show brings together contemporary artists, cut-out, collage, puppet, clay and stop-motion animators, auteur filmmakers and exponents of experimental film alongside commercial studios such as Walt Disney, Hanna-Barbera, Aardman, and Pixar. This exhibition explores the relationship between animation and film and offers insight into animation as a cultural and socio-political phenomenon. Looks like a definite visit for this summer.

Emma Fitzgerald - Warpsochord Music Video

Emma Fitzgerald joined us here at Tigerprint last year and she amazed us with her stop motion skills. Emma recently emailed me to let me know she has just finished work on a new music video for the song Warpsichord by the extremely talented Alan Mx. Enjoy.

Kandle Design

Kandle Design is a creative production studio in London who operate as art directors but also as a creative team specializing in motion graphics and typographic animation.
Above are a few stills taken from the stop motion they created for Orange "Good Things Never End".

Manvsmachine

Most people are probably familar with the T4 idents featuring model figures and food and the company behind these is Manvsmachine. They have also done work for MTV such as the example above but check out their website to see the variety of animation and graphics projects which they take on.

Computerlove - I met the Walrus

Computer love is a good place to look most days for a mix of the latest online portfolios and design related eye candy. But I thought I'd point this animation out.
"In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon's every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation."
