The first ever collection of Grimm’s fairy tales, entitled “Children’s and Household Tales”, was published in December of 1812, and two hundred years later it is still thrilling children and adults alike.
To celebrate two hundred years of enchantment and magic; seven young
up and coming illustrators will be interpreting these wonderfully dark
and mysterious stories into a very special Christmas exhibition at
Foyles. With inspiration taken from both the classics, such as Hansel
and Gretel, and the less well known tales like The Golden Bird ; this
exhibition is about interpreting and re-discovering a cultural legacy
that has been with us for 200 years.
The contributing artists include Emma Block, Lesley Barnes, Laura Barrett, Natsuki Otani, Yelena Bryksenkova, Emmeline Pidgen and Karolin Schnoor.
Prepare to be spellbound as you enter The Enchanted Forest!

After much deliberation, we have decided to open up a blog for you to be part of. Not just for commenting in, but to contribute to. We want it to be a place for you to share your ideas and thoughts with other like minded folk out there, show off what you're up to, share what you've seen, have discussions and generally feel part of the Tigerprint team.
This will initially be a trial period to see how things go and if it's something you would like to be part of. We've invited a few of you to start with, and if and when we feel there is plenty of interest we will go 100% live!
Already we have posts by the ever lovely Charlotte Littlehales, Kirsti from Plainly Patterned, Esther Cox, Michelle Drew of Pattern & Co and Jen Whitham of JLW Illustration. Please do head on over now and check out all the amazing posts from these very talented and creative peeps!
If there is anything you think we can do to help this be what we/you want it to be please let us know in the comments below.
Emma wood attended our very first Tigerprint Open Day back in September and consequently joined us for a two week placement in our Bradford Design Studio. You can find out more about Emma and her work in the interview below.
1. What inspires you to create the work you do?
I love textiles, so textures and fabrics are something I love working with. I love colour and dyeing fabrics, so in my final year degree work I took a lot of my inspiration from space imagery and the night sky. I also love designing for children, I think you can be a bit more playful when your work has a younger target market!
2. What is your usual creative process? Where do you start and what mediums do you use?
I like photography (though I'm not very good at it!) I usually start working from pictures I've taken or photos I've found that inspire me, and I mainly look at colours first. I enjoy dyeing fabrics, stitching and printing. So I like to get a bit messy!
3. In three words- how would you describe your work?
loads of fun!
4. What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy baking, now that I'm back living with my mum I get to do it more often and make a mess in her nice kitchen! We've already prepared the mince pies in advance for Christmas this year!
6. What three things would you want to have with you on a desert island?
my phone, my very handy swiss army tool and a book.
8. What book are you currently reading?
I'm reading Lord of the Rings at the moment. I'm just about to finish the first book of the trilogy. It was read to me when I was younger so now I wanted to read it for myself. I love the films too; I'm really looking forward to The Hobbit!
9. Do you ever get ‘designers block’? If so, how do you combat it?
I dig out some pattern or design books. Print & Pattern 1&2 are always good ones to get me back on track. Magazines are great too, I bought a Christmas magazine this year and I have tons of ideas now for making gifts for people and decorations!
10. Who is your favourite designer/artist?
I have a few favourites, I find it too hard to pick! I love Tara McPherson's illustrations, I met her once and she signed my book. I was really chuffed! I also love Gil Elgren's pin up paintings- they are incredible!
11. Finally, do you have anything you'd like to share- links to your blog, shop etc?

Bringing you some beautiful eye candy this Friday afternoon courtesy of the super talented Rosie Simons.
"Rosie is a graphic and surface designer naturally inspired by things around her, from day to day items to nature. She automatically visualises how imagery and objects will translate into designs, motifs and patterns. Graphic and surface design have always run parallel in her interests and she has developed her style to incorporate both these passions, a simple and clean but colourful aesthetic; combining simple graphic illustrations and typography. Rosie's passions lie in making something eye catching, whether that be a great logo for a company or a surface design used on products from wrapping paper, to clothing and homeware.
Rosie graduated in 2012 from University of the Arts London with a degree in graphic design and recently graduated from 'The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design' with Rachael Taylor and Beth Nicholls. Rosie is currently looking for representation, commissions and licensing so please contact her via her website for more information".
Rosie has an Etsy shop where she sells greetings and christmas cards and hopes to branch out to other products in the future. You can also buy her fabrics from Spoonflower and designs on iPhone cases, iPad skins, prints and more from her Society6 store.
