This year, Stockport’s Visual Arts degree show is focused around the third year packing up and moving on from the college. The show will display the students work in the college whilst we hold a special event in town to bring the work into the Manchester design sphere.
We have hired a 7.5 tonne curtain sided lorry to be used as a mobile studio for the day. The degree show will be packed up into the lorry and then moved on to the middle of town. We will be parked in Stevenson square throughout the day and inviting design studios to come and look at the work and talk to the students.

I just happened across Elephant Family on the blog of Ark Designs. Elephant Family is a charity dedicated to protecting Asian elephants and their habitats.
Elephant Parade London celebrates the beauty of the magnificent Asian elephant. And this year – with 258 painted elephants in locations across central London – it is the biggest and most beautiful outdoor art event the city has ever seen.
The elephants are on the streets of London from May until July, and are attracting an estimated audience of 25 million, raising a projected £2 million and benefiting 17 conservation charities in the UK alone. Download the official route map from the Elephant Parade London website and please sign the petition to call on governments for securing a viable future for the endangered Asian elephant.
Let us know if you spot any!

Some of you may recognise the work of Katie Kirk from the Print & Pattern blog and book.
Katie is a Katie Kirk is a graphic designer and illustrator living and working in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Along with her husband, Nathan Strandberg, they started EightHourDay, a multi-disciplinary, multi-talented design boutique.
As well as featuring the the Print & Pattern book they have had rave reviews and feature from the likes of HOW magazine, Print Magazine and Communication Arts. It is easy to see why their work has become a firm design favourite as you look on Katie's site, EightHourDay and try and stop yourself purchasing the whole of the etsy shop.
Simply great design which will have you hooked and checking back for updates. My fave (as a sweet tooth) has to be Sugar in pink - love it!

Thanks for all your entries for the What's the BIG IDEA competition, some were brilliant,
some a little weird, and the odd one was just downright bizarre, but they all made us smile and
we had a tough task choosing a winner (hence the slight delay!).
However, after much discussion we decided to award first prize to Charlotte for
her Spec-tacular and Fantache-tic designs. We liked the simple but effective concepts, and felt there was a lot of potential in the idea. We also thought the antique design style suited the concept perfectly.
Well done Charlotte !
We also picked two runners up, the fun and quirky "Let's Par-tea!" by Natalee, and Amelia's
naive yet charming "Sorry you're leaf-ing" and "I'm sticking with you" designs.
Congratulations to you two, and thanks again to everyone for all your designs, especially the
REALLY odd ones (you know who you are...!)
Don't forget we have two competitions that you can enter this month:
Have a great weekend!
