The judges really enjoyed judging this competition and after the photography competitions that have been popular lately it was great to get back to a more illustrative and design led brief.
Alas there can only be one winner and this month the prize goes to Ilona with her entry above.
"This is a beautiful and clever design. It contains many of the icons we might see in old style traditional cards but the use of photography and thoughtful placement brings it right up to date.
The old style boot and coin are a lovely nostalgic touch and are nicely complimented by the union flag which adds some current trend and keeps the colours alive. The grass background is fun and is what made this design stand out".
Well done Ilona.
The runners up are as follows:
"The illustration is beautifully placed and has a light, up to date style. It maintains a traditional air with the use of pattern and charming subject matter. Both birds and tea cups remain very fashionable in the market at this time so a traditional representation is ideal. The presentation of the caption is very attractive though perhaps a little too contemporary for the brief but I have judged on the strength of the illustration".
"These characters are fantastic and could also be used on a contemporary design if they were formatted in a different way. In this case the colours and floral images tie the design in to the traditional brief. Their expressions are beautiful and the poses well thought out with the clever use of materials keeping the design looking current".
Well done Gemma.
"This design reminds me of traditional wallpaper. The subject matter is traditional and on trend but the formatting and colours make it appealing to all ages. I could imagine this letter pressed on a thick, textured, cream board for a luxury, designer feel". Great work Kayleigh.
"Rufus the dog is appealing and current with an endearing expression. The hand painted effect means the style looks traditional and would appeal to the traditional consumer. I particularly like the background which looks like handmade paper and the black outlines which appear full of texture. With clever formatting and use of caption this character could be used on a tradional or contemporary design".
Well done on such a cutie!
