Which competition did you win and you can tell us briefly about the idea behind the design?
I won the Christmas Typography competition. I'm particularly drawn to the typography competitions and the lettering style was one I had tried out for the Love Typography competition (and came runner up!). As I was working on how the letters would join up best I had the idea that it could be a length of tinsel, but this looked a bit fussy. I tried the idea of ribbon next and then the little bulbs which seemed to work best and it gave the design a little bit of sparkle.
How did you discover the Tigerprint and Trendthink site?
It was through the Print and Pattern blog.
What other Trendthink competitions have you entered?
Love Typography and What's the Big Idea.
What interested you about the competitions and why do you enter?
It's nice to work to the challenge of a brief as I spend a lot of time at home working on my own designs and looking after my young family. It's a great way to get your work seen by a larger audience and of course, there's always the prospect of winning!
What are the inspirations/ influences for your design work?
I'm very fortunate to live in a beautiful place - by the sea. I'm inspired by many things from a walk on the cliff path, childhood memories and nostalgic objects to current trends and fashion. Being around other creative people helps too.
Have you had any freelance work or placement offers from Tigerprint following the competition and if yes what types?
Future career aspirations?
I am working towards publishing my own greetings card range and dream of expanding the range to gift wrap and other paper goods.
